Aletha Tillman, age 95, of Huron, died Saturday, January 28, 2017, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her memorial service was held at 2 PM, Thursday, February 2nd, at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Aletha Mabel Smith was born on September 14, 1921, to William F. and Anna (White) Smith in Huron. She attended Huron area schools and graduated from Huron High School.
On June 4, 1940, Aletha married Byron M. Tillman in Woonsocket. The couple lived in Huron before moving to West Haven, Connecticut in 1945 to search for employment after World War II. In 1954, the Tillmans returned to Huron to be closer to their family.
Aletha enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her two children. She was handy and would fix most things around the home. She enjoyed reading, painting, mowing the lawn and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Byron, on December 26, 1987; four brothers, William F. Smith, Jr., John C. Smith, Edward Smith and George Smith; and a brother-in-law, Herman Bauder.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her son, William L. (Teresa) Tillman of Richmond, Virginia; daughter, Jerry Tillman of Huron, three grandchildren, Lee (Tiffany) Tillman of Boerne, Texas, Corie (Dan) Wolf of Richmond, Virginia and Andrew G. Tillman of Bloomington, Minnesota; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jeanne Bauder of Huron.
