Wayne Traver

Wayne Traver, age 83, of rural Hitchcock, died Friday, January 19, 2007, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. His funeral service was Monday, January 22nd at the Bonilla Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kevin Channell officiating. Burial was in the Bonilla Cemetery. The family prefers that memorials be directed to the Bonilla Presbyterian Church.

Wayne Traver was born January 25, 1923, on a farm near Bonilla, South Dakota to Harold Hayes and Oaklie (Otto) Traver. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Bonilla High School. For a few years in his youth, he lived in the Sisseton area.

On January 25, 1943, he married Dorothy C. Palmer at Huron. They farmed in the Bonilla area. He also worked at the Redfield State School for ten years.

Wayne was a life-long member of the Bonilla Presbyterian Church. He served on the Bonilla School Board, and was a Boy Scout leader and a 4-H leader. He was an avid stock-car racing fan and enjoyed hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; and his son, Wayne Traver, Jr.

He is survived by his children, Dinah (Rich) Jefferis of Parker, Ted (Nancy) Traver of Andover, Kansas, and Tim (Linda) Traver of Hitchcock; fourteen grandchildren, Shelly Heinz of Wahpeton, North Dakota, Shari Riveland of Breckenridge, Minnesota, Wayne "Trae" Traver III of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Michael Jefferis of Champlin, Minnesota, Christopher Jefferis of Sioux Falls, Julie Jefferis of Parker, Jason Jefferis of Sioux Falls, Hollie Muntz of Greenburg, Kansas, Ted Traver, Jr. of Wichita, Kansas, Jake Traver of Andover, Kansas, Sheldon Blume of Watertown, Leah Traver of Hitchcock, Wendy Risetter of Redfield, and Tim Paulson of Gillette, Wyoming; and fifteen great-grandchildren, Taylor and Raeann Heinz, Alyssa and Kristin Fonder, Bailey Traver, Jarrett and Josie Riveland, Maxwell Traver, Gracie and Ella Jefferis, Jazilynn, Kylie, MattyJo and Brady Risetter, and Devan Paulson.
