Vinton Luther obituary photoVinton P. Luther, age 83, of Huron, died Thursday, March 5, 2009, at the SunQuest Healthcare Center.  His memorial service was at 2 PM Tuesday, March 10th at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Jonathan Boehne officiating.  Burial was at 1 PM Tuesday at the Riverside Cemetery. 

Vinton Paul Luther was born March 4, 1926 to Frank Martin Luther and Marie (Maass) Luther in Cavour.  The family moved to Huron where he attended grade school, and was graduated from Huron High School in 1944.  He attended the University of Minnesota briefly before starting Luther Paint and Glass Company in March 1945.

He married Grace Hoerber in 1946.  He married Josephine (Foley) Andersen in 1969.

Vinton sold his business in 1976, and worked for Ed Pugsley Realty Company.  In 1977 he and Josephine moved to Arkansas, where he worked in real estate and also part-time for a home decorating company.

In 1992 Vinton and Jo moved to Gatlinburg, Tennessee.  While there, they were founding members of St. Paul Lutheran Church.  They returned to Huron in late 1999.

Vinton was confirmed as a charter member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron.  He was past president (1958) of the Huron Lions Club and a 50-year Lions Club International member.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine;  a daughter, Connie (Richard) Green, both of Huron; a son, John (Kathy Nunokawa) of Martinez, California; a sister, Marilyn Shanks Quist of Hutchinson, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Dana Green of Brookings, and Cara (Keith) Osier and great-grandson, Davis Osier, all of Huron; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Vinton was preceded in death by a son, Carroll Martin Luther; a stepson, Craig Allan Andersen; a brother, Martin Carl Luther; and his parents.
