Velma Baseler obituary photo 2Velma “Mickey” Baseler, age 77, of Huron, died Monday, December 12, 2011, at her home.  Her funeral service was at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 15th, at the Mt. Olivet Church with Rev. David Erdman officiating.  Burial was at 11:00 AM,  Friday, December 16th, at the Riverside Cemetery.

Velma “Mickey” Lou Salmon was born on August 12, 1934, at Wessington Springs to Leo and Bertha (Burma) Salmon. She has lived in Huron since her early childhood years.   She married Warren Baseler on March 17, 1975, at Huron.

Some of “Mickey’s” hobbies and interests were playing pool, hunting pheasants and deer as well as fishing.  Mickey spent many hours doing embroidery, quilting, and tie-blankets.  Mickey always enjoyed seeing her grandchildren and hearing about their activities.  Mickey was an Elder Foster Care provider for a number of years.   She also enjoyed driving the bus for the Huron Senior Center for a number of years. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; a step-daughter, Ramona Baseler-Rehak; a brother, Leroy; a sister, Joyce; and one grandson, Paul Spain.

Survivors include her husband, Warren of Huron; her children, Jean (Butch) Spain of Huron, Kim Lane of Huron,  Kelly  (Candy) Smith of Boone, Iowa, and Lance  (Cindy) Loban of Huron; her stepchildren,  Ron (Terry) Baseler of Omaha, Nebraska, Rose Bennett of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Patty (Scott) Cave of Council Bluffs, Iowa; twenty-two grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; nineteen great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren.
