Shirley Deyo obituary photoShirley N. Deyo, age 83, of Huron, died Saturday, February 7, 2009, at SunQuest Healthcare Center.  Her funeral service was 1:30 PM Thursday, February 12th at the Kuhler Funeral Home with Rev. Barry Whipkey officiating.  Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery.

Shirley Nadine Deyo was born March 29, 1925, to Vernon and Iva (Pearce) Deyo at Browns Valley, Minnesota.  The Deyo family moved to Huron in 1929.  One of ten children in the family, Shirley was considered a “miracle baby” since she weighed just 2 pounds 12 ounces at birth.  Shirley graduated from Huron High School.

She was a member of Riverview United Methodist Church and had been a member of the Women’s Relief Corps since age sixteen.  Shirley enjoyed ceramics and macramé, reading, singing and listening to music, and writing. 

She entered the Huron Nursing Home, now SunQuest Healthcare Center, in 1979.

 She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, Duane, Roy, Lester, Marvin, Virgil, Gordon and Norman; and two sisters, Bernita McKee, and Vivian Deyo in infancy.

 Survivors include three sisters-in-law, Vera Deyo of Aberdeen, Betty Deyo of Willmar, Minnesota, Bernice Deyo of Las Vegas, Nevada; and many nieces and nephews.
