Selene Sorensen

Selene M. Sorensen, age 60, of Huron, died Friday, September 3, 2010, in her home after a short battle with cancer.  Her memorial service was at 2 PM Tuesday, September 7th, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron, with Rev. Daniel Domke officiating.  Memorials may be made to the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church Preschool Tuition Assistance Program, Huron Humane Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Selene Marie Hestand was born January 13, 1950, in Watertown, South Dakota, to Chadwick (Dan) and Elsie (Nelson) Hestand.  She graduated from Lincoln High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in 1968.

On September 21, 1968, Selene married her high school sweetheart Todd Sorensen.  The couple had two children, Lori Ann and Christopher Alec.  Throughout their marriage of 41 years, Todd and Selene enjoyed the friends they made in each of the communities in which they lived:   Sioux Falls, Spearfish, Ogallala, Nebraska, Belle Fourche, Bismarck, North Dakota and Huron.   Selene was very proud of her marriage and her most joyful memories were the birth of her children and grandchildren. 

Selene loved crafting, boating, and spending time with her many friends at Lake Byron.  She was a passionate, determined and caring person who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. 

Grateful for having shared in her life are her loving husband and best friend, Todd Sorensen of Huron;  her daughter, Lori (Thom) Pruitt of Spirit Lake, Iowa; her son, Chris (Molly) Sorensen of Arnolds Park, Iowa; her grandsons, Andrew Pruitt and Grant Sorensen; her mother, Elsie Hestand of Sioux Falls; two sisters, Marilyn (Gary) Grotewold of Larchwood, Iowa, and Dana (Randy) Anderson of Rapid City; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Merlyn and Gladys Sorensen of Sioux Falls; her sister-in-law Pam (Ron) Frankman of Sioux Falls; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.

Selene was preceded in death by her father, Chadwick (Dan) Hestand, in 1994.
