Ruth Wahus

Ruth Wahus, age 84, of Huron, died Saturday, October 22, 2011, at the SunQuest Health Care Center.  Burial was at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Ruth Rosemary Miller was born July 30, 1927, to Arthur Wesley and Ethel Claire (Burkett) Miller, at Los Angeles, California.  She grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from Manual Arts High School in 1946.  She then worked for California Comp Insurance.

On May 10, 1947, Ruth married Gordon E. Wahus at Long Beach, California at the Navel Chapel.  Following their marriage they lived in various places for seven years while Gordon was with the United States Navy.  They then lived at Watford City, North Dakota for a few years and later moved to Williston, North Dakota where they lived for twelve years.  In 1960, they moved to Huron, and in 1967, Ruth and Gordon divorced.

Ruth had been employed at various jobs, as a night clerk at the Plains Motel, as a housekeeper with St. John’s Regional Medical Center, and as a babysitter.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Willis Wilbur Miller.

Survivors include one daughter, Sue Burns of Howe, Texas; two sons, Otto Willis Wahus of Rochester, New York and Paul (Sheila) Wahus of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Charles Bennett, Nicole Danielle Wahus, Kacie Lee Wahus, and Van Everett Wahus; and three great-grandchildren, Bryson Wahus, Keylei Wahus, and  Macey Brooks.
