Ruth Trautman

Ruth Trautman, age 94, of Huron, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at the SunQuest Health Care Center.  Her funeral service was at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 10th at the Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Holmes and Rev. Aaron Mudge officiating.  Burial was at the Bethlehem Cemetery at Fairfax.

Ruth Lillian McGeorge was born March 21, 1917, to Homer Blaine and Martha Odelia (Bates) McGeorge at Naper, Nebraska. As a small child, the family moved to Fairfax, South Dakota.   Ruth attended first grade at Alco Country School. At seven years old she got typhoid fever and was very sick.  Ruth attended second through eighth grade at Starr Valley Township School. After eighth grade graduation, Ruth helped her mother at home and doing chores.

She married her long time friend John Edmond Trautman on April 15, 1939, at Fairfax.  They lived at Fairfax, Miller, St. Lawrence and Wessington.  In 2003, Ruth moved to Huron, and lived with her daughter Betty.  While at Betty’s she assisted with Betty’s daycare by reading to the children, and playing games and cards.  In 2010, Ruth entered the nursing home.

Ruth loved the Huron Adult Day Care Center.  She enjoyed doing latch hook, beading and making necklaces, working puzzles and word books, and playing cards and bingo.  She liked going camping, fishing and attending family gatherings. Her family will cherish the memories of Ruth’s baking skills especially her cookies, cheese cakes and bread.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; one son, Billy Dean Trautman; one daughter, Martha Macauley; one son-in-law, Don Anderson; one daughter-in-law, Connie Trautman; four grandchildren, Chad, Jennifer, Angela and Marc; three great grandsons, David Bryan, Gary Lee and Gabe Allen; one great great granddaughter, Harley Rose; one brother, John McGeorge; and nine sisters, Florence, Evelyn, Esther, Grace, Amy Pearl, Thelma, Sylvia, Vera Hazel and Mary in infancy.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her ten children, Edmond (Sandy) Trautmann of Madison, Jack Trautman of Rockham, Richard Trautman of Wolsey, Betty (Roger) Sass of Huron, Vera (John) Ferderer of Huron, Dale Trautman of Cottage Grove, Oregon, Goldie (Dennis) Sterk of Brandon, Jean Anderson of Parker, Darlene Barber of Rapid City and David (Terri) Trautman of Parker; fifty-four grandchildren; eighty-three great grandchildren; twenty great great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy (Warren) Enders of Cottage Grove, Oregon; and one son-in-law, Edward (Mammie) Macauley of Cottage Grove, Orgeon.
