Rodney “Bubba” Freeman, III, was born September 14, 1977, to Rodney and Rebecca (Spaulding) Freeman, Jr., at Huron.  He grew up in Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1996.  He moved to Boulder, Colorado, in 1998, and graduated with honors from the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 2004.  On May 28, 2011, he married Laura Eve Kaplan at Asheville, North Carolina.  They made their home in Boulder until shortly before his death when they moved to Spearfish, South Dakota, to continue his education.

Bubba loved the outdoors, and hiking, camping and biking were his passions.  He loved to cook for his friends and family.  Climbing Mt. Rainer was a highlight of Bubba’s life, as were his two backpacking trips through Europe, the second with his wife Laura on their honeymoon.  Bubba was interested in people and in their stories, and wherever he went, he made lasting friends.  Bubba loved his hundreds of books, his hundreds of friends, and he loved his family.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Laura, of Boulder; his parents, Rodney and Beckie Freeman, of Huron; his sisters, Ardie Freeman, of Huron, and Sarah (Jason) Rubish, of Huron; his grandmothers, Ardes Spaulding of Huron, and Virginia Ann Freeman of Fredericksburg, Virginia; his wife’s parents, Ken and Ellen Kaplan of Asheville, North Carolina; his brother-in-law, Matt (Amy) Kaplan of Strongsville, Ohio; his beloved nieces and nephews, Nick and Emma Freeman, Henry, Audrey, and AnneClaire Rubish, and Lyla Kaplan; and his many dear friends.
