Robert Preston

Robert Preston, age 74, of Huron, died at his home Thursday, January 8, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer.  His funeral service was at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 13th at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Rick Senner officiating.  Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery with military rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Memorials may be given to Gideons International, Our Savior’s Lutheran World Hunger or Child Evangelism Fellowship of South Dakota.

Robert Glenn Preston was born February 8, 1934, to Glenn and Wilma (Brown) Preston at Oakland, Nebraska.  Bob grew up on the family farm near Lyons, Nebraska.  He graduated from high school and attended the University of Utah at Salt Lake City.  Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1954, working as an Air Weather Service Technician.  He was honorably discharged in 1958.  Bob worked in Sioux Falls, Goodland, Kansas and in Huron as a meteorologist technician for thirty-four years.  After his retirement, he worked at Coborn’s Foods and was a weather observer.

On June 25, 1965, Bob married Ruby Reichert of Parkston, South Dakota.

Bob was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, where he was a head usher, served on the council and sang in the choir.  He was a member of the Gideons International and the Lions Club International where he served as a secretary for fifteen years.  He was also a member of the Huron Rovers Camping Club and Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

His hobbies include camping, gardening, reading and being an avid Nebraska Cornhuskers fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Ruby of Huron; three children and their spouses, Todd and Michelle Preston of Huron, Heather and Darin Hunhoff of Lakeville, Minnesota and Jason and Becky Preston of Sumner, Washington; eight grandchildren and two on the way, Sean, Luke and Levi Preston, Hannah, Nathan and Zach Hunhoff and Isaac and Martina Preston; two brothers and their wives, Jim and Jan Preston of Homer, Alaska and Steve and Bev Preston of Lyons, Nebraska; one sister and her husband, Susy and Ralph Helmer of Eagle, Alaska; and many nieces and nephews.
