Richard Rink

Richard “Dick” Rink, age 84, of Huron, died Friday, January 28, 2011 at his home.  Private family services and burial were held on Thursday.  Memorials can be directed to the Dialysis Endowment, in care of the Huron Regional Medical Center Foundation.

 Richard Rink was born February 11, 1926, in Pender, Nebraska, to Herman and Anna (Schlueter) Rink.  He graduated from Pender High School in 1944 and served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946 while stationed in San Francisco.

Dick married Phyllis Heitland February 11, 1951, in Sioux Falls.  They lived in Sioux Falls and Wessington before moving to Huron in 1959.  Dick spent his next 30 years designing and building heavy paving and mining equipment at Huron Manufacturing, retiring in 1991.  In 1992, Richard started what is now known as Overbuilt, Inc., with his son Scott, in the family garage. 

 He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Phyllis of Huron; a daughter, Cynthia (Roy) Lopez of Denver, CO; two sons, Craig (Susan) Rink of Miles City, MT and Scott (Rebecca) Rink of Huron; ten grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jonathan, and Joshua Lopez, Curtis, Jacob, and Mackenzie Rink, and Lauren, Richard, Olivia and Regan Rink; one brother, Harold (Marilyn) Rink of Pender, NE; and two sisters, Martha (Clayton) Christiansen of Storm Lake, IA and Esther Sage of Ogden, UT.

 Preceding him in death were his parents, his son, Michael, and two sisters, Edna Maas and Helen Christiansen.
