Richard Bawdon obituary photoRichard Bawdon, 79, of Huron, passed away Monday, April 23, 2007, at the Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. His memorial service was 11 AM Friday, April 27th at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kevin Channell officiating. Private entombment was held at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family prefers memorials.

Richard Miles Bawdon was born December 8, 1927, at Ree Heights, South Dakota, to Robert Richard and Margaret (Nerland) Bawdon. He grew up in Ree Heights and attended school there and at the South Dakota Agricultural School in Brookings.

On June 19, 1949, he married Lila Hall at Centerville, South Dakota. They lived south of Ree Heights and ranched until 1968. At that time, they moved to Huron where Rich worked at the Beadle County Court House. In 1977, he began work as a carpenter, a job which he had continued to do until 2003.

He loved to square dance and camp and was a member of the Belles & Beaus Square Dance Club and the Dakota Wheeler Camping Club. Rich was a pilot and piloted his own plane for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kevin; a brother, Lee; and a sister, Marlie.

He is survived by his wife Lila of Huron; his children, Jesse Bawdon of Sioux Falls, Diane (Norm) Bryan of North Pole, Alaska, Stanley of Wolsey, Terry (Marla) of Huron, and Brad (Brenda) of Alpena; nine grandchildren, Corey, Raquel, Melissa, Dawn, Kayla, Kraig, Krystle, Tiffany and Chris; three step-grandchildren, Kris, Kelly, and Kent; seven great-grandchildren, Miles, Alexis, Payge, Kayla, Conner, Rylan and Marissa; six step-great-grandchildren, Aasyn, Alex, Heather, Ryan, Brettan, and Payton; two brothers, Marvin Bawdon, of Sturgis, and Jerry (Marsha) Bawdon, of Brandon.
