Raymond J. Lichty

Raymond J. Lichty, age 84, of Wessington, died Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Avera Queen of  Peace Hospital in Mitchell.   His funeral mass was celebrated at 10:30 AM Wednesday, June 9th,  at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wessington by the Rev. Chester Murtha.  Burial was St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery at Wessington with military rites given by the Wessington American Legion Post #110. 

Raymond was born August 26, 1925, at the family farm near Wessington, to Fred and Lillie (Zens) Lichty.  He attended country school and graduated from Wessington High School in 1943.  After he graduated from high school he worked on the family farm until he entered the US Army.  Following his service in the Army he returned to the family farm.  He also cared for his parents until their deaths.  He continued farming until his death. 

Raymond was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Order of Catholic Foresters and the American Legion Post #110 of Wessington.

He is survived by his sister, Helen Muellenberg of Redfield; a number of nieces and nephews including, Jim Muellenberg, Marge (Larry) Frohling, Don Muellenberg, Roger (Linda) Muellenberg, Steve Muellenberg,  Theresa Lichty, Anne (Don) Hartman, Pauline (Ruben) Hicks, and Pam (Craig) VanZee; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy (Johnson) Lichty.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Edward and John F. Lichty and one brother-in-law, Richard Muellenberg.
