Ray DeKramer obituary photoRay DeKramer, age 90, of Huron, died Thursday, April 14, 2011, at Huron Regional Medical Center.  His funeral service was at 2:00 PM, Monday, April 18th at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Daniel Domke and Rev. Kelly D. Smith officiating.  Entombment was at Restlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum.  Military rites will be conducted by the Huron Veterans Council.  The family prefers memorials.

Ray DeKramer was born June 11, 1920, to Martin and Inez (Halgerson) DeKramer at Sioux Falls.  He moved with his parents to Canistota in 1921, where he received his elementary and secondary education and graduated in 1938.  Ray attended Sioux Falls College from 1938 to 1941.

Ray served in the military from 1941 to 1945 as a glider pilot in the Army Air Force for the airborne forces, and in the European Theater from 1944 to 1945.

 On February 10, 1944, Ray married Pearl Brunken at Canistota.   He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Sioux Falls College in 1947, and a degree in Agriculture Engineering from South Dakota State University in 1948.  Ray was a registered professional engineer in South Dakota.

Ray was employed with the Bureau of Reclamation from 1948 to 1980, in the investigation, planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of water resources facilities in South Dakota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming.

He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and served as trustee, financial secretary and was the building committee chairman.  Ray was a member of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers, South Dakota Engineer Society, World War II Glider Pilots Association, Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International, and life member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Ray served as member and past chairman of the City Planning Commission and the City Water Board.  He was past secretary and president of the Huron Rotary Club, past president and life member of the Huron Area Senior Center.  Ray was also past chairman of the Tomahawk District of Boy Scouts.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dale; and one sister, Joy Parry.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Pearl of Huron; one son, Steven (Marcia) deKramer of Jamestown, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Kay (Paul) Mors of Huron; five grandchildren, Ryan (Aimee) Mors, Kristen Mors, Kelly deKramer, Amy deKramer, and Kristoff (Mischa’) deKramer; four great-grandchildren; Matthew and Michael Mors, and Abbie and Joshua deKramer; three step great-grandchildren, Mitchel, Layne and Kaedyn Brown; one sister, Lois Youells of Sioux Falls; one brother, Lyle (Jean) DeKramer of Canistota; and one sister-in-law, Lavelle DeKramer of Canistota.
