Ralph Maas obituary photoRalph Maas, age 82, of Yale, died Friday, September 4, 2009, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.  His funeral service was at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, September 8th at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Jonathan Boehne, officiating.   Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. 

 Ralph Maas was born April 21, 1927, to Fred and Clara (Musolf) Maas, at Yale, South Dakota.  Ralph attended country school for elementary and graduated from Yale High School in 1946.  On June 19, 1949, Ralph married Neva Walter at Yale.  This summer, the family celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Yale.

Ralph farmed all his life near Yale until he had a disabling stroke in 1990. In 1990, they purchased the grocery store in Willow Lake and operated it until 1993. Ralph enjoyed pheasant hunting, playing cards and combining.  After his stroke Ralph enjoyed visiting the farm to check up on Dean. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.  Ralph loved visits from his kids and especially enjoyed the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Elroy Maas; and one sister, Viola Walz.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Neva of Yale; one son, Dean (Peggy) Maas of Huron; three daughters, Cindy Kuecker of Tempe, Arizona, Melodie (Ken) Decker of Yale and Marcia Hiles (Kevin Raap) of De Smet; nine grandchildren, Travis (Aurie) Maas, Melissa (Bryan) Brinkman, Kristin (Bryan) Van Overschelde, Brandon Kuecker, Brent Kuecker, Britt Kuecker, Misty (Brandon) Heck, Chelsea Hiles, Taylor Hiles; and seven great-grandchildren, Kuper Heck, Kenlea Heck, Ty Brinkman, Izzy Brinkman, Alyza Brinkman, Nicholas Maas, Blake Maas;  two brothers, Ray Maas of Yale and Wilbur Maas of Huron; two sisters, Lenora (Earl) Scott of New Underwood and Ethel Moeller of Sundance, Wyoming.
