Rachel Goehner obituary photoRachel Goehner, age 25, of Moorhead, Minnesota, and formerly of Huron, died Friday, November 3, 2006 at her residence. Her funeral service was 2PM Tuesday, November 7th at the Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Brian Grover officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery.

Rachel Leigh Goehner was born December 10, 1980, in Aberdeen, to Wes and Shari (Weidner) Goehner. She attended American Lutheran Preschool, Madison Elementary School, Huron Middle School, and graduated from Huron High School in 1999.

Rachel attended Cottey Junior College in Nevada, Missouri for two years and then attended Dakota State University for a year. She was currently finishing a degree in graphic design at Moorhead State University. She was employed at East River Nursery for several summers.

While in high school, Rachel was active in band, jazz band, choir and the Madrigals. When she was a junior and senior in high school, she wrote articles on hockey for the Huron Plainsman. At Cottey Junior College, she played varsity basketball for two years, wearing #23, the number of her favorite player, Michael Jordan. During her second year at Cottey College, Rachel studied in London and wrote two articles for the Huron Plainsman about her trip. Her hobbies included drawing and painting, writing, sports activities and playing the piano.

She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Huron, where she was baptized and confirmed. Rachel was very active in the church including singing in choir, playing in handbell choir, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible school and helping with soup suppers.

She was preceded in death by two aunts, Karon Goehner and Shirley Goehner Cain.

She is survived by her parents, Wes and Shari Goehner, of Huron; her sister, Jennifer (Shawn) Gross, of Aberdeen; her brother, Ryan (Heather) Goehner, of Vermillion; her sister, Rebecca Goehner, of Huron; her grandparents, Art and Martha Goehner, of Huron, Marlene and Marv Hoerauf, of Huron, and Harold and Gloria Weidner, of Apache Junction, Arizona; two nieces, Makaela and Payton Gross, of Aberdeen; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
