Phyllis Mikkelsen

Phyllis Mikkelsen, age 76, of Huron, died Tuesday, September 11, 2007, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.  Her funeral service was at 11 AM Friday, September 14, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kevin Channell officiating.  Burial was in the Onida Cemetery at 3:30 PM.

Phyllis Ludwig was born on July 21, 1931 in Onida, South Dakota to Ralph and B. May (Finney) Ludwig. She grew up in Onida and graduated from Onida High School in 1949.  On June 5, 1949 Phyllis married Darrell E.J. Mikkelsen at Onida.  Following their marriage they lived in Onida, Pierre, Minot, North Dakota and Huron.  Phyllis worked at the State Library in Pierre and was a secretary for several businesses.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Job’s Daughters.  Phyllis enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and watching the Atlanta Braves and the Green Bay Packers. She especially liked volunteering at her church and keeping up with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Keith Ludwig; and her former husband, Darrell Mikkelsen.

Grateful for having shared her life are her three daughters, Mona and her husband Neil Kotas of Huron, Kathy and her husband James Teer of Sioux Falls and Cindy and her husband Rock Yale of Burlington, North Dakota; six grandchildren, Scott (Ami) Yale, Chad Yale, Shawn Pastian, Julie (Aaron) Bartekoske,  Renae (Bradley) Schieckoff and Angie (Jason) Duncan; four great-grandchildren, Carson Yale, Caiden Pastian, Gabi Duncan and Cameron Duncan; and one sister, Leona Morris of Webster, South Dakota.

Mom made everyone feel special and loved.  Her family was so important to her and she loved each of them dearly.  We will all remember and cherish the time we had with her and the important life lessons she taught us.

Rest gently, Mom, in God’s arms, and someday we will all be together in God’s Kingdom.
