Kuhler Funeral Home

A family is a legacy of love, a love that lasts forever.

Percy P. Fast

Percy P. Fast, age 90, of Osceola, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at the SunQuest Healthcare Center.  His funeral service was at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 7th at the Faith Mennonite Church, north of Iroquois, with burial in the church cemetery.

Percy Peter Fast was born on December 16, 1918, and adopted as an infant by Peter and Jenny Fast.  He peacefully passed away on March 4, 2009, at SunQuest Healthcare Center, Huron, South Dakota, at the age of 90.

Dad spent the first two years of his life in West Texas, and then moved with his parents to Langdon, ND, where he received his education and grew to manhood.  At the age of eighteen, God called him to repentance through the hymn “Near To The Heart Of God”.  He gave his heart to God and was baptized into the Church of God In Christ Mennonite on July 25, 1937, by Jacob F. Barkman.  He remained faithful to these vows to the end.

On May 21, 1944 he was married to me, Evelyn Penner, at Greenland, Manitoba, Canada.  We shared life’s joys and sorrows for 64 years.  To this union were born five sons and four daughters.  He had a deep love for his children and provided well for the needs of his family.  He often expressed a burden for the salvation of his children and grandchildren.  We made our home at Langdon, ND until 1959, when we moved to Iroquois, SD.  Dad was a carpenter and farmer.  He was a well known fix-it man and had a unique talent of knowing how to fix broken items that looked un-repairable.  Dad willingly gave of his time and found joy in helping others.  Everyone was welcome in our home.  Dad was a very hospitable person, always making sure that everyone’s needs were met.

A special time to him was the time spent at Window Rock, Arizona, doing maintenance at Hogan Hozhoni Child Care Home.  We enjoyed our many travels together and our retirement years in Osceola, where we appreciated our frequent visitors and many good times with family and friends.

Those left to treasure memories are his wife, Evelyn; five sons; Delbert and Jane, Milliken, CO; Dalin and Arlene, Iroquois, SD; Sherwin and Roberta, Salina, KS; Les and Miriam, Prairie, MS; Silvan and Anne, Iroquois, SD; four daughters, Roberta, Osceola, SD; Aldene and Tim Holdeman, Houston, TX; Venora and Gene Ensz, Del Norte, CO; Rhonda and Sid Yost, Ronan, MT; one brother; Bob and Glenna, Northfield, MN; 32 grandchildren; and 58 great grandchildren.

His parents and four grandsons preceded him in death.

We as a family express our sincere appreciation to our sister, Roberta, for lovingly caring for our parents during the last few years.
