Patti M. Vaughn

Patti M. Vaughn, age 79, of Miller, died Friday, March 25, 2011, at the Avera-Hand County Memorial Hospital in Miller.  Her memorial service was at 11 AM Wednesday, March 30th, at the Kuhler Funeral Home in Huron, with Rev. Rick Senner officiating.  Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery.

Patti M. Johnson was born December 31, 1931, to Henry E. and Alma (Ellis) Johnson at Holdenville, Oklahoma.  She was baptized at the Baptist Church in Alva and graduated from Alva High School in 1949.  During her high school years at Alva, Patti played in the band and was crowned Annual Queen her senior year.  After high school, Patti moved with her parents to Ponca City, Oklahoma.

Patti then moved to Louisiana and married Robert Trask.  They had one son, Perry.  She later moved to Lubbock, Texas and worked there for the Lubbock Avalanche Journal as the legal secretary for the newspaper.

Patti married Robert Vaughn and moved to South Dakota.  She worked as a housekeeper for Russell Hanks for fifteen years.

She was a member of the Jaycee Janes and was the chairperson of the Republican Party in Pond Creek, Oklahoma during the Ronald Reagan campaign.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Perry, and two sisters, Jewel Leota Johnson and Jonnie Bell Thornhill.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her two brothers, Clyde Johnson of Hydro, Oklahoma and Harold Johnson of Great Bend, Kansas; five sisters, Vera Shaull of Huron, Mary Smith of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Charlene West of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, LaVelle Powers of Lubbock, Texas, and Toni Forgash of Tehachapi, California; and many nieces and nephews.
