Owen Eagle Star obituary photoOwen Cay Eagle Star, age 10, of rural Carpenter, died Thursday, April 22, 2010, at Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls.  His funeral service was at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at Prairie Bible Church (formerly Hutterthal Church), rural Carpenter, with Rev. David Erdman and Rev. Rod Poppinga officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Make A Wish Foundation of South Dakota, 1400 West 17th Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57104.

Owen Cay Eagle Star was born November 24, 1999, to Nicholas Eagle Star and Amie L. Smith in Sioux Falls.  He attended Washington Elementary School in Huron and most recently attended Doland Public School. 

Owen enjoyed horseback riding and anything to do with horses.  Arts and crafts, reading and gaming were some of his favorite pastimes, and he especially loved going to auctions with his Grandpa Hal.  Owen was able to make trips to Disney World and the Northern Bull Riding Tour through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  For three summers, Owen attended  Sanford Children’s Hospital’s “Camp Bring It On” at Camp Lakodia on Lake Hermann, and is pictured on the front of this year’s brochure for the camp.

Owen is survived by his mother and stepfather, Amie and Charles Decker of Carpenter; his father, Nicholas Eagle Star of Huron; his siblings, Chayton Eagle Star, Patrick Decker, Gracelynn Decker and Laura Eagle Star; his grandparents, Hal and Chris Smith of Hitchcock, Cindy and Scott Eagle Star of Huron, and Alan and Patricia Decker of Huron; his great-grandparents, Paul Smith of Hitchcock,  Eva Fisher of Huron, Eileen Moes of Kranzburg, Dihl and Pat Hougland of Huron, and Darlene Eagle Star of Gregory.
