Norman Herzberg obituary photoNorman Herzberg, age 85, of Huron, died Sunday, August 15, 2010, at SunQuest Healthcare Center.  His funeral service was at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 18th, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kevin Channell officiating.  Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery with military rites by the Raymond Hart Post #84 American Legion of Hitchcock.

Norman Herzberg was born July 17, 1925, to Paul and Grace (Sweeten) Herzberg at Aberdeen.  He grew up on the family farm near Hitchcock and graduated from Hitchcock High School.  Norman joined the US Army and was stationed in Tokyo, Japan until his discharge.  From there he returned to Hitchcock.

Norman married Ruth Ackerman December 12, 1948, at the First Presbyterian Church in Huron.  They farmed near Bonilla until they retired and moved to Huron in 1991. 

Norman enjoyed traveling and the couple visited all fifty states.  His hobbies included reading and woodworking and he made many bookcases, tables and picture frames. 

Norman was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Huron where he had served on various committees and as an elder.  He was also a member of the Hitchcock American Legion. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and two uncles.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Ruth of Huron; a sister, Lois McGlothlen of Sioux Falls; a nephew, Roger Johnston of Bridgewater; and several cousins.
