Norene Hurd

Norene Hurd, age 77, of Huron, died Wednesday, October 11, 2006, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service was 10:30 AM, Saturday, October 14th, at the First Baptist Church, with the Dr. Riley Walker officiating. Burial was at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church, Huron Hospice, and the Rainbow Center, 900 NW Woods Chapel Road, Blue Springs, Missouri 64015.

F. Norene Hale was born on October 19, 1928, in Huron to Edward and Ruth (Campman) Hale. She attended grade and high school in Huron. On February 8, 1946, she married Jack Hurd at the First United Methodist Church in Huron.

Norene stayed home to raise their five children. She was called to be a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a great blessing to each life she touched. She was loved and revered by her family. Later she worked for the Huron High School Food Service, was the Nutrition Site Director for the Huron Area Senior Center, was an Activities Aide for the Violet Tschetter Nursing Home, and then at their family business Hurd Alignment. After retirement from their shop, she worked as a Hospitality Hostess at Super 8, finally retiring in 2002, due to her poor eyesight.

In the community, Norene was active in the Huron Lioness Club, receiving the Lioness Award and the LCIF Award. She was President of the Huron Lioness Club for a time. She was a Girl Scout Leader for Troop 61, and a Den Mother for Cub Scouts. Norene was active in the Baker's Dozen Club. She was a charter member of the Christian Women's Club. She was a Pink Lady volunteer for the Huron Regional Medical Center, and a member of the Huron Area Senior Center and a RSVP volunteer.

As a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, Norene was a member of the First Baptist Church in Huron where she held several offices in the ABWM. She sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school. She loved children, and led the youth choir at the church for some time.

Her hobbies were crafts, crocheting, and knitting; she maintained contact with friends and family on computer email.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Jack who passed away on June 16, 2005; one daughter, Julie Ann; her parents; two brothers, Harry Hale, and Donald Hale; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hale, Mary Hale, and Betty Hale; and two brothers-in-law, Rex Garrett, and Clyde Jolin.

Norene is survived by her four children, Peggy (Jerry) Britton, of Lees Summit, Missouri, David (Kristi) Hurd, of Chandler, Arizona, Mary (Lee) Robeson, of Southampton, Pennsylvania, and Jerry (Carolyn) Hurd, of Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren, Julie (Mitch) Schieber, Jenny Britton, David (Susy) Britton, Thad Chapman, Jodi Chapman, Steven Hurd, Katie Hurd, Joshua Robeson, and Jason Robeson; two great grandchildren, Caedran and Remington Schieber; two sisters, Irene Garrett, of Huron, and Irma Jolin, of Boise, Idaho; two brothers, Lawrence (Jane) Hale, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Maurice Hale, of Brookings; a sister-in-law, Grace Hale, of Huron; and many nieces and nephews.

"A friend loveth at all times" was a manifestation of her life. She loved and was loved by her many, many cherished friends through the years.
