Nellie Scheibe

Nellie Scheibe, age 83, of Wolsey, died Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.  Her funeral service was at 11 AM Saturday, February 16th at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wolsey with the Rev. L. Scott Spiehs officiating.  Burial was in the St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery at Wolsey. 

Nellie L. Stobbs was born February 26, 1924, to Guy A. and Ada Ruth (Sass) Stobbs at Vayland.  She graduated from Wessington High School in 1942.  Following graduation she worked for Emily Meyer at the telephone office.  On March 27, 1946, she married Gilbert Scheibe at Brownwood, Texas.  Nellie and her sister, Dollie were confirmed by Rev. David Loesch on March 2, 1950.  Nellie was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the LWML, the Social Sisters Extension Club, and the Wolsey American Legion Auxiliary.  Nellie also taught Sunday School and Bible School. She worked a number of years on the Wolsey Township election board, and at the Wolsey Nutrition Center.

Nellie enjoyed baking, canning, gardening, quilting, and crocheting.  Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have afghans that she had crocheted.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Viola in infancy, Evelyn Chalcraft and Dollie Scheibe; two brothers, John Stobbs and William Stobbs; and one grandson, Daryn Lee Haeder.

 Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Gilbert of Wolsey; one daughter, Linda Haeder of Wolsey; three sons and their wives, Terry and Roxy Scheibe of Huron, Randy and Karen Scheibe of Custer, and Myron and Carolyn Scheibe of Eldridge, Iowa; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Donna and Trayce Haeder; Corey, Jessica, Richard and Tyler Haeder; Todd, Mickie and Kaden Scheibe and Tanner and Carli Keefe; Scott and Katie Scheibe and Karlie Valer; Robyn Scheibe; Ryan Scheibe; Lisa and Aaron Tekippe; Nathan and Michelle Scheibe; and Mark and Lindsey Scheibe; two sisters, Edna Peterson and Blanche McNeil; and numerous nieces and nephews.
