Mildred A. Eichstadt

Mildred Eichstadt obituary photoMildred A. Eichstadt, age 87, of Huron, died Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at her residence.  Her funeral service was at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 26th, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wolsey with Rev. L. Scott Spiehs officiating.  Burial was in the St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Mildred was born January 16, 1921, at Hooper, Nebraska to Edward and Alma (Havkost) Moller.  She grew up there and moved to the Wessington area as a young child.  On January 11, 1942, she married Robert Eichstadt at Huron.

Farm life was very important to Mildred.  She was proud of her large vegetable garden, and spent countless hours planting, tending, harvesting and canning her produce.  Mildred also raised chickens and was known as the “Egg Lady”.  Her chickens produced eggs that she delivered to businesses and homes for many years.

Large family gatherings were a special source of joy as she loved to cook and bake for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She also shared that love with others when she cared for several elderly persons in their homes for a number of years.

A member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wolsey, Mildred volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, a Vacation Bible school teacher, and was active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.

They retired from farming and moved to Huron in 2002.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gene and Eddie; and one great-grandson, Zeplin.
