May Dell Wold

May Dell Wold, age 85, of Huron, died Friday, October 5, 2012, at SunQuest Healthcare Center.  Her funeral service was at 3 PM Tuesday, October 9th at First Baptist Church with Rev. Marc Anderson officiating.  Burial was at 2 PM Wednesday, October 10th at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.  The family prefers memorials directed to the First Baptist Church or the charity of choice.

May Dell was born February 3, 1927, to Esther (Hook) and Frank Bailey at Huron.  The family farmed in several locations in South Dakota and Iowa and returned to Huron where May Dell graduated from Huron High School.  She later attended nursing school in the United States Cadet Nurse Corps.  She met Harlan Wold at the First Baptist Church in  Huron, and they were married there on August 17, 1947.  They remained active members of the church for many years.  They moved to StoneyBrook Assisted Living in 2003.  After Harlan’s death in 2004, she remained at StoneyBrook   until earlier this year.

May Dell enjoyed playing the piano, reading and entertaining guests.  She loved to cook and shared that gift with many friends and family members as well as children in the Head Start program where she worked as a head cook for several years.  May Dell was dedicated to her family and home throughout her life.  She and Harlan raised five children and were actively involved in the lives of their grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harlan; two brothers, Warren (Zaide) Bailey, Harold (Viola) Bailey; and a sister, Beth (Fred) Smith.

She is survived by her children, Marian (David) Martin of Plymouth, Minnesota, John (Nancy) Wold of Gillette, Wyoming, Steven (La Vonne) Wold of Lead, Beth (Larry) Picek of Huron and James (Sherry) Wold of Huron; eleven grandchildren, Kristine (David) McKinney, Jennifer (Eric) Syversen, Samuel (Tammy Fauci) Wold, Sarah (Cody Kittleman) Wold, Michelle (Mark) Iversen, Brian (Jodi) Fero, Ashton (Misaki) Picek, Justin (Becky) Picek, Joel Wold, Jared Wold and Rachel Wold; seven great-grandchildren, Abigail, Ryan, Derek, Alex,  Phoebe, Jarrett and Owen; and many nieces and nephews.
