Mary  Bohr obituary photoMary Bohr, age 86, of Huron, departed this life April 11, 2010, at Sun Quest Village in Huron. Her memorial service was at 2:00 PM, Wednesday April 14th at Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron with Rev. Barry Whipkey officiating.  Burial was at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 14th at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Wessington. 

Mary (Lusk) Bohr was born February 13, 1924, to Alfred and Orilla (Clark) Lusk at Argonne, South Dakota.  She attended twelve years of school at    Argonne, graduating in 1942.  She attended college at Wessington Springs.  Playing  basketball was her passion and she loved competing on high school and college teams.  Mary taught all eight grades in one-room rural schools in Miner County for several years.

On January 19, 1946, Mary was married to Don Bohr at Howard, South Dakota.  They farmed north of Howard until 1962, when they moved to Wessington until 1981.  They also lived at Evanston, Wyoming, Luverne, Minnesota, Mitchell, Hoven, Tolstoy, and Redfield, South Dakota.

Mary served on the Wessington School Board and worked as a teacher’s aide and substitute teacher.  She also served as a volunteer at RSVP and the Christian Learning Center.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and St. Joseph’s Altar Society in Wessington and a member of the Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron.  Mary enjoyed attending ballgames, concerts, rodeos, plays, and any activity in which her kids and grandkids were involved.

Grateful for having shared her life are her six children, Dennis (Sandra) Bohr of Custer, Mary Lou (Ken) McGirr of Sturgis, Steve (Randi) Bohr of Holdrege, Nebraska, Jean (Jeff)  Larson of Huron, Laurie (Rocky Allen) Alvarez of Sturgis, and Lesa (Glenn) Rowen of Wessington; sixteen grandchildren, Shannon (Tony) Waterman, Donovan Bohr, Lucas Bohr, Brad (Laura) McGirr, Derik (Tara) Bohr, Jesica Bohr, Katie (Brett) Dannull, Amanda Bohr, Anne Bohr, Kyrsten (Joe) Fokken, Jay (Paige Jerman) Larson, Amber Larson, Cody (Regal) Nicholas, Stephanie (Chris Richmond) Huntsinger, Melissa Huntsinger, and Mallory Huntsinger; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her  parents, her husband on October 19, 1991, two brothers, Luverne and Eugene Lusk, and one sister, Cora  VanScharrel.

Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren.
