Marie Stevens

Marie M. Stevens, age 87, of South Sioux City, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, December 18, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, shortly after being diagnosed with cancer.  Her funeral service was 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 20th, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in South Sioux City with the Rev. Daniel Wittrock officiating.  Graveside service were at 4:00 P.M. Monday in the St. Martins Catholic Cemetery at Huron, South Dakota.

Marie was born November 14, 1921, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Adler) Geier. She graduated from Aberdeen High School. She lived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and was manager of Westward Ho County Club. She moved to Sioux City in 1973, and was manager of the Howard Johnson Hotel in Sioux City until she retired at the age of six-five. She then became an active volunteer at the Sioux City Senior Center.

She was a Catholic and a member of the Sioux City Senior Center. She started tap dancing at the age of sixty-five and was proud of her Happy Hoofers Tap Dancing Group until she became ill in early December.

Foremost in her life were her family and friends. She had a special place in her heart for Barb and C.R. Pitts and her Happy Hoofers Tap Dance Group. Hobbies she enjoyed included cooking, scrabble, crossword puzzles, attending to her flowers and being an avid reader.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Martin Geier; and two sisters, Pearl Tomek and Gloria Huettl.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her son and his wife, James T. and Virginia Stevens of Georgetown, Texas; two daughters, Judy Stevens of Arlington, Texas, and Carol Huether of Huron, South Dakota; one brother, George Geier of Napa, Idaho; six grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah and Ryland Stevens and Heidi, Abby and Josh Huether; and four great-grandchildren, Emily, Jack, Emerson and Molly.

She will be dearly missed by family and friends. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Mercy Medical Center ICU Unit.
