M. Leatrice Hoy obituary photoM. Leatrice Hoy, age 84, of Emery and formerly of Huron, died Monday, December 27, 2010, at Diamond Care Center in Bridgewater.  Services were held at 10:30 AM Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Hettinger-Bittner Chapel in Emery.  Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery in Huron. 

Lea (Rask) Hoy was born December 19, 1926, to Almer and Lauretta (Murphy) Rask in Mitchell.  She grew up in Letcher and received her education there, graduating from high school in 1944.  Lea attended Dakota Wesleyan University for business school for a year.  She then worked in Sioux Falls at the stockyards and the hatchery, and at the Town and Country Café at noon.

She married Hubert Hoy in Letcher on March 6, 1954.  They made their home initially in Sioux Falls, and then moved to Huron.  Lea was employed at KIJV Radio for 26 years until her retirement.  She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile.

Those left to mourn her loss are three nieces, Michelle (Jim) Dunkelberger of Hartford, Carla (Ray) Hoffman of Boulder City, Nevada, and Mindy Eddy and her three small sons of Emery; four nephews, Brad (Janelle) VanLeur of Brandon, Jeff (Rhonda) VanLeur of Emery, Tom (Kris) VanLeur of Brandon and Curtis VanLeur of Hastings, MN; a niece-in-law, Joy VanLeur of Fraser, Colorado; 19 great-nieces and great-nephews; and 8 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hubert; two sisters; a nephew, Kevin VanLeur; and a great-nephew, Gavin Miller.
