Lorraine Cotton obit photoLorraine Cotton, age 87, of Huron, died Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.  Her funeral service was at 10 AM, Monday, December 7th at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kevin Channell and Pastor Andrew Crandall officiating.  Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery. 

Lorraine Eleanor Olson was born April 27, 1922, in Wessington, South Dakota, to George W. and Eleanor M. (Sohn) Olson.  She attended school in Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1940.  Lorraine then attended Huron College for one year. 

On May 15, 1943, Lorraine married Clyde Howard Cotton in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  She was a civil service court reporter and a stenographer for the Office of Price Administration.  The family moved several times as Lorraine’s husband was a coach, teacher and athletic director in Burke, Flandreau, and finishing his career as athletic director of Huron High School.

Lorraine loved dancing, politics and her family.  She was an avid supporter of the Huron Tigers and received the award of the oldest alumnus attendee at the 2009 homecoming ceremony.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde in 1970; and her sister, Mary Lou Fosheim.

Grateful for having shared her life are her four children, Sue (Tim) Hopkins of Westboro, Massachusetts, Robert (Jill) Cotton of Bow, Washington, Debra (Edward) Jones of Kutztown, Pennsylvania, and Jill (Jimmy) Reimer of Huron; twelve grandchildren, Julie (Kirt) Corregan, Dr. Jeff (Sarah) Hopkins, Kate (Jay) Lumsden, Kris (Renata) Hopkins, Casey (Jennifer) Cotton, Brian Cotton, Kelly Jones, Eric (Heather) Jones, Erin (Joshua) Alexander, Nicholas Reimer, Molly Reimer and Andrew Reimer; six great-grandchildren, Josephine, Catherine and Jane Hopkins, Bruce Hopkins, Zoie Jones and Kenzie Alexander; and her brother, Robert Olson of Huron.
