LeRoy Wenz

LeRoy Wenz, age 82, of Huron, died Monday evening, April 4, 2011, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.  His funeral service was at 2 PM Thursday, April 7th at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald Crippen officiating.  Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery with military rites by the Huron Veterans Council.

LeRoy Wenz was born April 22, 1928 in Wessington Springs, South Dakota to Martin and Carolyn (Losing) Wenz.  He and his nine brothers and sisters were a farming family.  He attended Schaffer Grade School.  In his teens he helped his sister Lydia on her farm and his brother Hank on his farm.

Roy was drafted into the US Army and served in Korea for two years.  On September 6, 1953, he married Alice Adelia Anderson at the American Lutheran Church in Huron.  Roy farmed in Wolsey, Huron and Redfield before working at Spink County Co-op in Redfield for 25 years.

He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing and farming. Roy loved his family most of all and had a kindness and gentleness unmatched.

He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Wenz of Huron; a brother, Albert Wenz and his wife Fern, and a sister, Eva Vilhauer and her husband Robert,  all of Huron;  several nieces and nephews, and two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Wenz of Vilas and Leola Wenz of Mitchell.

He was predeceased by his wife Alice in 2005; a son Monte in 1969; his parents; five brothers, Ervin, Martin, Edward, Walter and Henry “Hank”; and two sisters, Lydia and Elizabeth “Betty”.
