Leo Wepking

Leo Wepking, age 86, of Huron, formerly of Geddes, died Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron.  His funeral was at 2:00 PM Thursday, August 9th at the United Methodist Church in Geddes.  Burial was in the Pleasant Lawn Cemetery in Geddes with military honors by Dieman-Gray Post 56 American Legion.  

Leo Earl Wepking was born March 3, 1926, to Henry and Lula (Bowen) Wepking, at home in Geddes, South Dakota.  He lived in Geddes until moving to Huron in April 2012.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946.  Upon his discharge from the service he worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad until his retirement in 1976.

In his later life, Leo enjoyed driving around the countryside in his car, sitting in his car listening to the radio, visiting with his friends and watching baseball.

He is survived by two sisters, Claire Bartekoske of Lake Andes and Helen (Frank) Dufek of Huron; four nephews, Richard Bartekoske of Ft. Pierre, Larry (Donna) Dufek of Watertown, Dennis (Carol) Bartekoske of Waterloo, Iowa and  Rick (Susan) Dufek of Huron; and many great nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Fred Walker; and one brother, Fred Wepking.
