Lavina Brinkley obituary photoLavina Brinkley, age 81, of Helena, Montana and formerly of Huron, died Friday, May 22, 2009, at the hospital in Helena, Montana.  Her memorial service was at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 27th at the Bethesda Church with Rev. Phil Plett officiating.  Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery. 

Lavina Lewis was born May 27, 1927, to Albert A. and Emily (Cook) Lewis at Huron.   She grew up and attended school in Huron. 

On October 16, 1946, Lavina married Melvin Emmett Harty.  They had two children, Marjorie and Leonard.  Melvin died April 26, 1969.

Later, Lavina married Charles Coutts.  He died September 3, 1995.

On September 21, 2005, Lavina married Wally Brinkley.

Lavina worked at Model Laundry, the St. John’s Hospital, the school cafeteria and the bakery department at Randall’s.  Lavina also enjoyed being a demo lady at Coborn’s.

She was a life member of the Huron Area Senior Center, a life member of the American Legion, and life member of the VFW Post 1776 Auxiliary.  Lavina delivered fruit to the nursing homes for the VFW Auxiliary, to the Veterans and to the Gold Star Mothers. She was a member of the Bethesda Church which was also a big part of her life in Huron.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Melvin Harty and Charles Coutts; one daughter, Marjorie Hines; and one brother, Dale Lewis.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Wally Brinkley of Helena, Montana; one son, Leonard and his wife, Patricia “Pat” Harty of Chiloquin, Oregon; one brother, Merle Lewis of Sturgis; one son-in-law, Merlyn and his wife, Sue Hines of Huron; one step-daughter, Gail and her husband, Mike Zimmerman of Helena, Montana.  She was also blessed with six grandchildren, Craig and his wife, Melanie Hines, Sheila and her husband, Scott Leichtenberg, Jeff Hines, Daniel Adolphson, Jim and his wife, Brandy Rothrock and Susan Harty; six step grandchildren, Kelly Zimmerman, Julie and her husband, Stephen Sakaguchi, John Zimmerman, Steven Zimmerman, David Zimmerman and Timothy Zimmerman; seven great-grandchildren, Dalton, Logan and Keegen Hines, Skyler and Devin Hines and Colby and Chelsey  Rothrock; and two step great-grandchildren, Maci and Jacob Sakaguchi.
