LaDonna M. Waldner

LaDonna Mary Waldner, age 70, of rural Doland, died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Huron Regional Medical Center.  Her funeral service was at 10:30 AM Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at Hutterthal Mennonite Church with Pastor Harold Loewen officiating.  Burial was in the Hutterthal Church Cemetery. 

LaDonna M. Waldner was born February 15, 1938, at Pierre, South Dakota to Fred and Bertha (Adams) Stanley.  She moved with her mother to the Doland area and graduated from Doland High School.   LaDonna earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in Mathematics from Northern State University. 

On July 13, 1956, she married Lyman Waldner in Aberdeen.  LaDonna taught school for 33 years.  She first taught at Fordham School and at rural school near Agar.  After she earned her B.S. degree, she taught in Groton, Doland, and at Huron College.  She also taught at Bowdle and Polo.  She earned her M.S. degree while working in Conde, and then taught at Ellsworth, Minnesota and on the Standing Rock Reservation at Wakpala. 

In the late 1970s, she was baptized by the Rev. Edwin Goossen at Lake Mirage. 

LaDonna was active in the South Dakota Education Association and had received several citations for her service.  She loved to sew and sold fabric and notions through home parties for many years. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Richard Stanley. 

She is survived by her husband, Lyman, of Doland; her son, Douglas (Melanie) Waldner of Brookings; her daughter, Joyce (Scott) Wilson of East Wenatchee, Washington; seven grandchildren, Derrick, Cassandra, Sophia, Christian, and Diezel Waldner, and Kayla and Brandon Wilson; and one sister, Marcella Ramsey, Virginia Beach, Virginia.
