L. Richard McCoy

L. Richard McCoy, age 87, of Sioux City, Iowa and formerly of Huron, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at the St. Luke’s Hospital at Sioux City, Iowa.  His funeral service was Saturday, March 1st at 2:00 PM at the Huron Mission Church with Rev. Richard Birr officiating.  Burial was in the Ideal Cemetery. 

L. Richard McCoy was born October 3, 1920, on a farm southeast of Huron to Roy and Weltha (Waldron) McCoy.   He grew up in Huron and received his education there. 

Richard worked with his father, operating the McCoy Gardens for many years and worked for Armour & Company for twenty-six years.  In between times, he also worked for the Bauder and Tischler Gardens.  He loved the soil! 

On April 12, 1940, he married Anne Kleinsasser at Huron.  They made their home in Huron.  For the past four years, he had made his home in Sioux City, Iowa with his daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Don Jacobsen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anne on December 3, 2003; and his sister, Eunice Becker. 

Richard is survived by two children, Jan and her husband Don Jacobsen of Sioux City, Iowa, and Richard D. and his wife, Linda McCoy of Brandon; four grandchildren, Kevin and his wife, Susan McCoy, Kerri Nitzschke and her special friend Shay, Scott and his wife, Michelle McCoy and Joni and her husband, Bob Bruns; four great-grandsons, Gage McCoy, Lucas Nitzschke, Tristen Bruns, Korbyn Bruns; two great-granddaughters, Tina Lange and Payton Nitzschke; and two future great-grandsons.
