Kirk Walz

Kirk Walz, age 52, of Huron, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.   His memorial service was at 10 AM Saturday, April 21, 2012,  at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Daniel Domke officiating. Private burial was in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Yale. 

Kirk Walz was born January 28, 1960, at Huron, to Alvin and Mary Alice (Reinschmidt) Walz.  He was born with Cerebral Palsy.    He grew up in Huron and attended the Helen Buchanan School.   Kirk was the Poster Child for the State of South Dakota Easter Seals as a child and was also involved with the Crippled Children’s Hospital Telethons held in Sioux Falls for a number of years.  As a result of his participation in them he met a number of the celebrities that also participated.    He also took part in the Special Olympics where he won numerous medals. 

 Kirk was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and attended Sunday School there.  His favorite football teams were the Miami Dolphins and the Minnesota Vikings, and in baseball, the Minnesota Twins and the Detroit Tigers.  He had attended several Twins games.  Kirk worked at the Centre Plaza with the Center for Independence and had lived at the Butler House and most recently at the Hamilton House. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his four brothers and their spouses, Larry and Regela Walz of Huron, Darryl and Marla Walz of Pierre, Craig and Roberta Walz of Custer and Doug and Mary Walz of Huron and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
