Joe Gurnon obituary photoJoseph P. “Joe” Gurnon, age 83, of Huron, died Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at his home.  His funeral mass was at 11 AM, Saturday, December 19th at the St. Pius X Catholic Church (69 & Blondo) in Omaha, Nebraska.   Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Omaha. 

Joseph P. Gurnon was born August 13, 1926, to Joseph P. and Theresa (Szucs) Gurnon at Omaha, Nebraska.  He attended school in Omaha, graduating from Central High School in 1944. On July 6, 1946, Joe married Patricia Joan Lowe at Omaha.

He worked for American Road Equipment for a short while.  Joe then worked for Chicago North Western Railroad as a clerk and later as a district sales representative, which brought him into contact with many grain elevators. In 1986, after forty years with the CNW, Joe retired in Huron.  

Joe was a handyman and an avid Nebraska Cornhuskers fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia on July 2, 1992; one son, Mark on April 1, 1987; and four brothers, Bob, Louie, Charlie and Don Gurnon.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his three children, Janice (Elson Shields) Gurnon of Dryden, New York, Claudia (Rick Button) Gurnon of Huron, and Donald Gurnon of Huron; five grandchildren, Brittany Erickson, Karli Button, Logan Button, Chenoa Shields, and Keegan Shields; and one brother, Jim (Ruth) Gurnon of Blue Springs, Missouri.
