John Luddy obituary photoJohn Luddy, age 56, of Huron, died Friday, May 11, 2012, at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.  His funeral service was at 10 AM Wednesday, May 16th at Grace Episcopal Church with Rev. Ronald Brugger, officiating.  Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the Beadle County Humane Society or Grace Episcopal Church.  

John Richard Luddy was born May 27, 1955, to Allison Bovee Wheeler Luddy and George Robert Luddy at Huron.  He attended Huron schools and Shattuck School in Faribault, Minnesota, graduating from Huron High School.  He attended University of South Dakota in Vermillion and graduated from South Dakota State University in Brookings.

John owned and operated Heartland Collection, Inc. in Huron at the time of his death. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling.  John was very active in the lives of his grandchildren, attending their sports activities, recitals and myriad tournaments and competitions that both were involved in.  John loved animals and was involved with the founding of the Beadle County Humane Society.  He was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, Huron Masonic Lodge and the Yelduz Shrine.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his cousin, Jeff Wheeler and his uncle and aunt, Kirke and Maurine Wheeler.

He is survived by two daughters, Jessica (Jake) Bixler of Hitchcock and Johanna Luddy of San Francisco and two grandchildren, Chase and Hailey Bixler of Hitchcock.  He is also survived by a half-sister he met in adulthood, Janet Yerger of Reading, Pennsylvania, and cousins and their families, Richard (Pamela) Wheeler of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Ronald (Marie) Wheeler of Huron, Brian (Jeanne) Wheeler of Sioux Falls, Dr. Kirke (Dorothy) Wheeler of Sioux Falls, and June Wheeler of Huron.
