Joan C. Wuestewald

Joan C. Wuestewald, age 71, of Huron, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at the Southridge Healthcare Center in Sioux Falls.  Her funeral service was at 10:30 AM Friday, June 26th, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald Crippen officiating.  Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. 

Joan Carol Gross was born February 19, 1938, to George W. and Barbara (Walter) Gross on a farm in Beadle County.  She attended rural school in Beadle County and graduated from Hitchcock High School in 1956.  Joan attended Huron College for one year and then taught in rural school in Beadle County, continuing to work on her education.  In 1970, she graduated from Huron College and started teaching at Alpena in September 1970.

On confession of faith, Joan was baptized May 16, 1954, by Rev. William Dahlenburg at the Fairfield Bethel Church, north of Huron.  While living in Huron, she attended church at the Mt. Olivet Church and the First United Methodist Church.

Her biggest joys were her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her friend, Robert Schnable; one sister, Valeria Kleinsasser; one brother, Gaylord Gross; and one granddaughter, Ericka.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her son, John Wuestewald of Sioux Falls; her daughter, Sheila Koerselman of Sioux Falls; five grandchildren, Ashley (Arnold), Brian, Waylon, Chelsy and Dawn; one great-grandson, Adam; two sisters, Blanche Walter of Huron and Dolores (Rueben) Tschetter of Huron; two brothers, Emery (Leola) Gross of Rapid City and Morris (Gloria) Gross of Brooten, Minnesota; one sister-in-law, Linnie Gross of Champlin, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.
