Hoscheid, age 85, of Huron, died Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.  Her funeral service was at 11:30 AM Saturday, December 15th, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Derek Baum officiating.  Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church. 

Jean A. Poole was born March 20, 1927, to William H. and Edna M. (Naylor) Poole at Buhl, Minnesota.  She graduated from Truman High School in 1945 and from Hamline University School of Nursing in 1948.  She worked as a registered nurse for several years at the hospital in Trimont, Minnesota.   

In 1950, Jean married Howard Hoscheid in Truman, Minnesota.  They lived in Truman, Minnesota, Beresford, South Dakota and Mitchell, South Dakota before moving to Huron in 1973.  Jean was an active member in the United Methodist Church in all these communities, especially the First United Methodist Church in Huron.   She served on several committees, was active in United Methodist Women and also served in a number of positions at the conference level of the church. 

Jean served on the board of directors of the Huron YWCA, and was a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, Fortnightly Study Club, the Order of the Eastern Star and PEO Chapter AN.  She was the 1987 South Dakota Mother of the Year. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard; her son, Michael; and her brother, James Poole.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her sons, Randall (Robin) of Huron, Terry (Julie) of Spearfish, Scot (Mary) of Bettendorf, Iowa and Pete (Janet) of Groton; nine grandchildren, Paul, Titus and Peter Roberts, Grant and Nathan Hoscheid, Tommy and Betsy Hoscheid, Jenna (Justin) Baumberger and Jessica Hoscheid; her brother, Bob (LaVonne) Poole of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
