Irvin J. Wurz

Irvin J. Wurz, age 84, of Redfield, went to his Heavenly Home  Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.  His funeral service was at 10:30 AM Wednesday at Bethesda Church with the Rev. Phil Plett officiating.  Burial was in the Ebenezer Cemetery, rural Doland. 

Irvin Joseph Wurz was born August 29, 1925, at Doland, South Dakota to Joseph and Elizabeth (Pullman) Wurz.  He attended the Albright School in Harrison Township and worked on the family farm. 

Irvin entered the U.S. Army in December 1944 and served in the Philippines.  He was discharged in 1946.  He returned to the Doland area where he farmed until his retirement in 1980.  Irvin moved to Doland in 1985 and lived in Aberdeen and Casa Grande, Arizona before moving to Redfield in May 2007.

Irvin enjoyed farming, raising cattle, and his favorite pastimes included watching Minnesota Twins and Arizona Diamondbacks baseball games, fishing, having coffee and visiting with his coffee buddies and playing with his nephew’s dogs. 

He is survived by two nieces, Mary Jo (A.R. “Skip”) Williams of Frankfort, Sandra (Cliff) Vitters of Milbank, South Dakota; one nephew, Lon (Denise) Wurz of Waddell, Arizona; one sister-in-law, Bonita Wurz of Redfield;  and one brother-in-law, Erwin Wipf of Doland.

Irvin was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Harold and his sister Marian.
