Hilda Baum obituary photoHilda Baum, age 88, of Huron, died Monday, May 21, 2012, at SunQuest Healthcare Center.  Her funeral service was at 10:30 AM Friday, May 25th at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Derek Baum officiating.  Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church.

Hilda Magdalena Ochsner was born on November 30, 1923 to Jacob and Beada (Ulmer) Ochsner on a farm northeast of Alpena.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Reformed faith in Alpena.  She married Clarence Baum on December 5, 1943, at the Reformed Church in Alpena.  In 1958, they joined the First United Methodist Church in Huron and had been members ever since.  They farmed on her parent’s farm which they later purchased.   Hilda lived on this farm most of her life except for the three years when she and Clarence lived in Virgil.  After Clarence’s death on March 11, 1985, she stayed on the farm for another eleven years before moving to Courtyard Apartments in Huron. On January 23, 2010, she moved into SunQuest Healthcare Center and remained there until her death.

She is survived by her three children David (Reva) of rural Alpena, Jerald (Darlys) of Burlington  Iowa, and Judith (Bryan) Johnson of Loveland, CO; seven grandchildren, Steven (Kanda) Baum, Gregory (Connie) Baum, Brian (Jessica) Baum, Derek (Lindsy) Baum, Rebecca (Joel) Zwanziger, Jennifer and Jordan Johnson, and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Raymond; two sisters, Ardena and Tillie; and two brothers-in-law, Raymond Neuharth and David Morris.
