Helen Marie Wipf, age 77, of Huron, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.  Her funeral service was held at 10:30 AM Thursday, May 7th, at Mt. Olivet Church with the Rev. David Erdman officiating.  Burial was in the Mt. Olivet section of Ideal Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed toward Northwestern College Capital Campaign for the Billy Graham Community Life Commons Building, 3003 Snelling Ave. N., Roseville, Minnesota 55113.

Helen Marie Wallman was born to Frank F. and Sarah (Tschetter) Wallman near Clark, South Dakota, on November 18, 1931.  She attended grade school in Carpenter and high school at Willow Lake and Huron, graduating from Huron. She was baptized at the United Missionary Church in Carpenter. On December 12, 1948, she married Ferd J. Wipf in a ceremony on the farm of Sam K. Wipf, rural Huron.

Besides being a faithful wife and loving mother, she worked outside the home at various jobs, including waitressing at Service Cafe and Sid’s lunch; as a sales associate for the Woolworth Company; selling Avon cosmetics and jewelry door to door; and working in the social services department for the State of South Dakota where she assisted seniors.

Helen loved the Lord and dedicated herself to teaching children the good news of Jesus Christ. She was a Sunday school teacher at Mt Olivet Church in Huron for over 35 years as well as leading many classes for Child Evangelism Fellowship in her home and the homes of others. In 1991, she was honored for her work in religion as the recipient of the Outstanding Volunteer Service award by the Daily Plainsman.

Helen and Ferd celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in December 2008 with their family, daughter, Sandy (John) Fleming, grandson, Troy (Teri) Fleming and their children Gabriel, Seth, Paxon, and Bryn all of Sioux Falls; as well as son, Jeffrey (Erin) Wipf of Apple Valley, Minnesota and grandchildren, Andrew, Jordan, Zachary, Lydia, and Isaiah.

Helen is survived by her immediate family as well as two sisters, Susanne Kleinsasser of Sioux Falls and Rose (Harlan) Tschetter of Huron; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Wallman of Huron; two brothers, Kenneth (Evelyn) Wallmann and Willard Wallman, all of Huron; one brother-in-law, John S. Wipf of Scottsdale, Arizona; and many nephews and nieces.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Susie Becker-Wallman; two infant children, Gerald Dean and Twila Marie; one brother, Raymond Wallman; one sister, Gloria Wipf; one sister-in-law, Jeannette Wallman; and one brother-in-law, David Kleinsasser.
