Heath Styer

Heath Wayne Styer, age 25, died as a result of a car accident at Ravine Lake at Huron, South Dakota on June 27, 1995.  Heath’s remains were recovered July 2008.  His memorial service to celebrate his life was held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 2, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church, Huron with the Rev. Kevin Channell officiating.

Heath Wayne Styer was born September 22, 1969, to Dennis and Cheryl (Houge) Styer at Huron.  Heath attended various schools in South Dakota and graduated from Hot Springs, South Dakota in 1988, where he was in the top percentage of his class.  He also attended Boys State and was active in football and basketball.  Heath enjoyed playing American Legion baseball during the summer.  He and his brother, Jason, went on a trip with the baseball team to the eastern part of South Dakota where they played ball and attended a Twins game.  While in high school, Heath worked at the South Dakota Soldier’s Home at Hot Springs.  He also worked at Wind Cave.  After graduation, Heath and his family moved to Marion, South Dakota, where he worked at Western Printing at Sioux Falls and bean bugged in the summer months.  In 1990, the family returned to Huron, South Dakota where Heath was employed at Wrap It, Coastal gas station and was the night manager at Happy Chef.  Heath also drove truck for a time with his father.  Heath was employed at Pizza Hut at the time of his death.

Heath loved Harley Davidson motorcycles, old cars and the Dallas Cowboys.  He owned a 1964 Chevy Impala SS, a 1981 Chevy Camaro Z-28 and a 1986 Harley 883 Sportster.

Anyone who ever met Heath was greeted with a great big smile that would make your day.  He was very family oriented.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Quentin Houge; paternal grandfather, William “Bill” Styer; and his great grandparents.

Happy to have shared his life are his mother, Cheryl and her husband, David Davidson of Huron; his father, Dennis Styer and his companion, Kathy Wipf and her family of Rapid City; a brother, Jason and his wife, Tammy Styer of Mitchell; a sister, Michelle and her husband, Steve Paye of Huron; a half-brother, Brian Jordan and his family of Illinois; maternal grandmother, Wilma Houge of De Smet; paternal grandmother, Carolyn Styer of Huron; a nephew, Gavin Styer of Mitchell; two step-sisters, Leslie and her husband, Lynn Weston of Missouri and Angela Young of Texas; two step-nephews; two great step-nephews; four step-nieces; four great step-nieces; and many aunts; uncles; cousins and friends.
