Gerald Krog photoGerald Krog, age 51, of rural Cavour, died Friday, May 8, 2009, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.  His funeral service was at 1:30 PM Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Donald Johnson officiating.  Burial was in the Cavour Community Cemetery.

Gerald Roy Krog was born at 7:34 PM on April 25, 1958, at Cortez, Colorado, to LeRoy and Dorothy (Krueger) Krog.  He took his first step on April 5, 1959, at the age of eleven months.  His first word was “Bye-Bye”.  As a child he would rather be outside doing something than to watch television.  He started first grade at the Cedar School in Ree Heights, South Dakota and graduated from Wolsey High School in 1976.

Gerald attended Mitchell Vocational-Technical School for two years, studying auto mechanics.  He was employed by Shallbetter Company in Huron as a mechanical designer for several years.  For a number of years, he had been the master designer at Overbuilt, Inc.

His interests had always been in older cars, and when he could get one at a bargain that would make his day.  His favorite was the GTO by Pontiac.  His first GTO was a yellow convertible, which to this day he had not finished restoring.  He had never owned a new car.  In order to keep all his old cars, he bought the little town of Rayville, South Dakota, which his friends re-named Krogville (population 1).

He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Krog, of Frankfort; his brother, Roger Krog, of Sioux Falls; his sister, Barbara (Joe) Archuleta, of Farmington, New Mexico; three nephews, Victor, Joel, and Timothy Archuleta; one niece, Ashley Archuleta; a great-nephew, Alijah Archuleta; many aunts and uncles; and many, many friends.

Gerald’s father preceded him in death.
