Gerald Bentson obituary photoGerald B. “Jerry” Bentson, age 81 of Huron, died Thursday, July 28, 2011, at his residence.   His funeral service was at 11 AM Wednesday, August 3rd  at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with Rev. Rick Senner, officiating.  Military rites was conducted by the Huron Veterans Council.  Burial was in the Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis. 

Gerald B. Bentson was born July 22, 1930, at Montevideo, Minnesota, to Harold and Bernice (Wallien) Bentson. He grew up there and entered the US Navy.  He married Carolyn Romans in June 1952.  Following his discharge from the Navy he returned to Montevideo until they moved to Huron.  Gerald worked as a printer for 33 and a half years at the Huron Plainsman.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Gerald also served as the commander of the William Reaves Post #7 American Legion of Huron.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie as an infant, and a sister, Barbara.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn of Huron; two sons, Jay Bentson of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Jon Bentson of Box Elder, South Dakota; his mother, Bernice Bentson of Duluth, Minnesota; two brothers, Charles Bentson of Lakeville, Minnesota and Bruce Bentson of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; one sister, Cozette Bentson of Duluth, Minnesota; and a number of nieces and nephews.
