Gene Korkow obituary photoGene A. Korkow, age 63, of Cavour, died Monday, November 27, 2006, at the Huron Nursing Home. His funeral service was 2 PM Thursday, November 3th at the American Lutheran Church in Huron with the Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial was in the LeSueur Cemetery at Bancroft.

Gene Alan Korkow was born September 21, 1943, at Huron, to Elmer and Doris (Baker) Korkow. He grew up in Bancroft and worked at the family's gas station and grocery store while attending school.

Gene married Carletta "Nikki" Wiand on November 29, 1963 at Bancroft. They lived at Cavour. Gene worked at Armour & Company in Huron and then continued at the packing plant under subsequent ownership until 1997. In October 1997, he began employment at Lyle Signs in De Smet.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft. His hobbies included fishing and hunting with his golden retriever, "Lady", and he especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their sports and other activities.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Nikki Korkow, of Cavour; two children, Kristi (Jerry) Huizenga, of Hitchcock, and Todd (Kelly) Korkow, of Huron; seven grandchildren, Jessica Hynes, and her fiance, Justin Bach, Adam Korkow, Justin Huizenga, Logan Korkow, Ryan Huizenga, Cole Korkow and Clay Korkow; two brothers, Jerry (Marilyn) Korkow, of Iroquois, and Roger (Sharon) Korkow, of Cavour; one sister, Arlene (Dennis) Haarstad, of Cavour; two brothers-in-law, Ron Wiand, of Huron, and Randy (Yarda) Wiand, of Hawarden, Iowa; one sister-in-law Connie DeJean, of Rockford, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
