Fremon Bowne obituary photoFremon Bowne, age 71, of Huron, died Friday, November 11, 2011, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.  His funeral mass was celebrated at 11 AM Wednesday, November 16th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Terry Anderson as celebrant.  Burial was in the St. Martin Cemetery with military rites by the Huron Veterans Council and the Marine Corps League. 

Fremon Larry Bowne was born in Willow Lake, South Dakota on June 2, 1940, the son of Lewis and Mary (Neuberger) Bowne.  He attended grade school in Pleasant and Lake Township schools near Willow Lake, and then attended Willow Lake High School, graduating in 1957. 

He enlisted in the U.S. Marines on his seventeenth birthday and was honorably discharged the summer of 1960.  That Fall he enrolled at South Dakota State University, graduating in 1964 with a degree in animal science.  After graduation, he went to work for Wilson and Company buying cattle.  A few years later he went to work for Tama Packing Company, also as a cattle buyer.  For the past thirty years he had been employed with Long Prairie Packing Company, now the American Foods Group. 

Fremon married Marge on July 16, 1976, at American Lutheran Church in Huron.  They attended Riverview United Methodist Church together from 1976 until 2005, when they became members of the Catholic faith and joined Holy Trinity Church, also in Huron, where they lived their entire life together.

His many interests included farming, hunting and fishing, his gun collection, history and politics, the stock market, traveling to Germany, reading, especially the Bible, among many others. He was also a member of the Marine Corps League.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Mary. 

He is survived by his wife Marge of Huron; five children, Robin (Gary) Barton of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Sandie (Jon) Zimmermann of Bismarck, North Dakota, Dawn Scheele of Huron, Dave (Jane) Scheele of Westminster, Colorado, and Darin (Lisa) Scheele of Marshall, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Jason, Clint, Jennifer, Emily, Alec, Brendan, and Nathan;  three brothers, Lowell of Clark, Willard (Sue) of Sioux Falls, and Bryan (Babs) of Mitchell; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
