Dufek, Jr., age 95, of Huron and formerly of Geddes, died Sunday, August 26, 2012, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron.  His funeral was at 11:00 AM Thursday, August 30th at the United Methodist Church at Geddes. Burial was in the Pleasant Lawn Cemetery at Geddes with military honors by Dieman-Gray American Legion Post 56.

Frank C. Dufek, Jr. was born June 8, 1917, to Frank and Bessie (Petronek) Dufek near Geddes.  He grew up in the Geddes area and attended school through the eighth grade.  He worked on the family farm until he enlisted in the United States Army on March 31, 1942.  He served our country in World War II as part of the Normandy invasion, coming ashore at Utah Beach and was wounded in the French countryside shortly thereafter.  He received treatment in England and was honorably discharged from service on November 16, 1945.  He earned the Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, and several other service medals.  He was a member of the Dieman-Gray American Legion Post 56.

 Frank returned to Geddes and married Helen Wepking on May 31, 1946.  They farmed northeast of Geddes until 1980 when they moved into town.  In 2010, they moved to Huron to be near family.

During his retirement he enjoyed gardening, reading and baseball, both local and national.  He also enjoyed holidays with the family and visiting with friends at Duf’s Station.

He is survived by his wife, Helen of Huron; two sons, Larry (Donna) of Watertown, Rick (Susan) of Huron; six grandchildren, Dean (Rhona) Dufek of Lyons, Nebraska, Troy (Tammy) Dufek of Colome, Jay (LeeAnn) Dufek of Castlewood, Angie (Eric) Remington, Christy (Scott) Bales and Becky (Justin) Picek, all of Huron; twenty-five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; three sisters; and infant twin granddaughters.
