Evelyn Schwartz

Evelyn Schwartz, age 98, of Huron and formerly of Greeley, Colorado, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at SunQuest Healthcare Center.  Her funeral service was at 10:30 AM Saturday, June 26th, at the American Lutheran Church with the Rev. Rick Senner officiating.  Burial was in the Maplewood Cemetery at Iroquois.  The family prefers memorials to the American Lutheran Church or to a  charity of choice.

Evelyn Alvena Licht was born April 13, 1912, to Henry and Agnes (Pribyl) Licht at Wolsey.  As a child, she attended school and lived on the family farm in the Wolsey area.

On December 8, 1931, Evelyn married Erven George Schwartz at Wessington.  They made their home in the Wolsey area until 1947, when they moved to a farm in the Bancroft area.  Between 1956 and 1993, Evelyn lived in Lodi, California, Wolsey, South Dakota, and Greeley, Colorado before returning to Huron in 1993, where she lived at the Courtyard Apartments.

Evelyn was a member of the Huron American Lutheran Church and the Wolsey American Legion Auxiliary, where she was a gold star mother. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Erven on April 13, 2005; three sons, Dwain E., Richard and Merlin R. Schwartz; and two brothers, Richard and Merlin Licht.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son and his wife, Darwin and Chris Schwartz of Greeley, Colorado; one daughter-in-law, Linda (Reiter) Schwartz of Huron; one sister, Carol Christopherson of Lodi, California; six grandchildren, Steven Schwartz of Greeley, Colorado, Susan Toricelli of Greeley, Colorado, Jeffrey and Sarah Schwartz of Loveland, Colorado, Nadine and David Hickey of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Jason and Brandee Schwartz of Huron and Matthew Schwartz of Goodwin; thirteen great-grandchildren, Adam and Kyle Schwartz, Kellen and Curtis Frye, Madelynn, Sydney, Ryan and Amy Rose Schwartz, Bryli and Badyn Hickey, and Josee, Alyssa and Richard Schwartz; three great great-grandchildren, Colton Schwartz, Ayla Schwartz and Adalyn Schwartz; and many nieces and nephews.
