Kuhler Funeral Home

A family is a legacy of love, a love that lasts forever.

Evelyn Fast

Evelyn Fast, age 87, of Osceola, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at her home.  Her funeral service was at 10:30 AM Saturday, March 27th at the Faith Mennonite Church, north of Iroquois, with burial in the church cemetery.

Evelyn W. Penner Fast was born June 3, 1922, at Ste. Anne, Manitoba, Canada. She peacefully fell asleep at her home in Osceola, South Dakota, with her family around her bedside, at the age of 87 years.

Mother spent her youthful years in the Greenland community, where she received her education and grew to womanhood. She spent happy times helping care for her nieces and nephews. At the age of 16, she gave her life to her Creator, and was baptized into the Church Of God in Christ Mennonite, in October 1938, by Minister F.C. Fricke. She remained true to these vows to the end.

She lost her mother at the age of 18, accepting life’s challenges.

On May 21, 1944, she was married to Percy Fast, making their home at Langdon, North Dakota, then moving to South Dakota in 1959, sharing life’s joys and sorrows for 64 years. To this union were born five sons and four daughters.

Mother had a very strong faith in God, giving our home strength and stability. She was a constant, loving helpmate to our father.

Mother and Dad were unselfish in many ways and they opened their home to nieces, nephews, and unfortunate children. They gave time at Hogan Hozhoni Childcare Home and in Friend, Nebraska.

Mother was a good example to us, and we have a wealth of fond memories. Special memories were made singing, praying, and reading together. Her memory was very keen, and will be missed very much by all her many friends and relatives. She is the last one of her family to leave this old world.

Those left to mourn are four daughters; Roberta, Osceola, South Dakota, Aldene and Tim Holdeman, Houston, Texas, Venora and Gene Ensz, Del Norte, Colorado, Rhonda and Sid Yost, Ronan, Montana; five sons; Delbert and Jane, Milliken, Colorado, Dalin and Arlene, Iroquois, South Dakota, Sherwin and Roberta, Salina, Kansas, Les and Miriam, Prairie, Mississippi, Silvan and Anne, Iroquois, South Dakota; three sisters-in-law; Edna Penner, Greenland, Manitoba, Canada; Lottie Penner, Stenen, Saskatchewan, Canada; Irene Penner, Swan River, Manitoba, Canada; one brother-in-law; Bob and Glenna, Northfield, Minnesota; thirty-two grandchildren; and sixty-four great grandchildren.

Her parents; her husband; seven sisters; five brothers; four grandsons; and one great grandson preceded her in death.

We as a family express our sincere appreciation to our sister, Roberta, for the special care she gave our Mother, after Dad passed away.
